JOSE ANGEL CARRET

Jose Carret has worked extensively throughout Cuba, Canada, Spain and the Caribbean Islands.  He has won prestigious awards as a dancer and choreographer, and the following outlines some highlights of his career.  

In Cuba, Jose is presently the artistic director of Danza Corpus in Matanzas.  In the past he worked as a principal dancer, teacher and choreographer for Danza Espiral, and has taught at prominent schools such as Escuela de Superacion Profesional de Matanzas. 

Jose has more than 30 works of choreography, some of which has been featured in festivals and galas including a Cuban National Gala in honour of the legendary Alicia Alonso of the Cuban National Ballet, and The International Festival of Ballet of La Havana.  His choreographic works are in the repertoire of several companies in Cuba.

As a principal dancer, Jose toured Canada with Decidedly Jazz Dance Works in their production Bulla, and he traveled throughout Spain and the Caribbean Islands with Danza Espiral.  He has worked with may well known Choreographers such as Narciso Medina and Ramiro Guerra.

In 2009, Jose choreographed and performed with Mercedes Bernardez in his full length show DIMENSION CUBANA.  This show took place in front of an enthusiastic crowd that packed Lula Lounge.  During 2009 he also performed as a guest artist with Newton Moraes.  

In1997 Jose was a guest artist for Oakville School of Dancing where he choreographed his first works in Canada. He is presently a guest teacher for Ballet Creole and the Canadian Ballet Youth Ensemble.    

Jose is a gifted teacher and has experience working with diverse levels.  He is at ease teaching a wide spectrum of students ranging from absolute beginners to world-class professionals.   His enthusiastic energy fills the dance studio as he shares his expertise in Modern Dance, Afro- Cuban, Salsa, Cha-cha-cha , and Mambo with his students.
